Setup & Configuration

When you create a Duet account you are provided with an Administrator user account which can be used to configure your Organisation, invite additional users, and set up other aspects of the system.

The amount of setup & configuration required will depend on the complexity of your requirements. Duet is designed to work for single users and small teams with simple requirements through to large teams with multiple user roles and complex workflows.

However large your organisation, the suggested order of initial setup is as follows:

Check organisation details

Check details such as Organisation Name, Organisation Alias, Country, Currency and Locale; and amend if required.

Activate the required applications

When the Duet account is created, it will be activated with all available applications unless requested otherwise. The Administrator is able to change the activation at any time to remove or add applications.

Please note the following:

If an application is removed from the Organisation activation, then all user accounts will lose access to that application.
Each user account has it's own list of activated applications. When a new user account is created it is given access by default to the applications that are in the Organisation activation. If a user account does not require access to a specific application, then that application should be removed from the user account's activation list.
If a new application is added to the Organisation activation, then existing user accounts that require access to the application will have to be amended to grant them access. This is to prevent you from incurring any unintended usage charges.

Set organisation colour

You can change the colour scheme used in Duet, for instance to match your own branding.

Name and Configure Dimensions

Dimensions are used for analysis and are required in the Timesheets application, and can also be used in the Service Desk, Expenses & Requisitions applications.

Between 1 and 3 separate dimensions can be defined.

Some examples of possible dimension combinations are:

If multiple dimensions are in use, then rules can optionally be specified to link them together. For example, "Phase" (Dimension2) can be linked to "Project" (Dimension1) so that when a certain project is selected, only relevant phases are available for selection.

In addition, up to 2 free-format Dimensions can be defined. Examples of these are "PO Number", "Call Reference".

Create or import shared data

These items are used in multiple applications. You may wish to create or import the data that you require now, or do this as part of configuring the individual application(s):

Create user accounts

See Users for more details on setting up user accounts.

You can create as many user accounts as required. When a new user account is created, a welcome email containing the username and a temporary password is sent to the email address defined on the user account. The user will need to sign in to Duet using the temporary credentials, whereupon they will be asked to create a permanent password.

The Administrator user account can only be used for configuration tasks, therefore you should create a regular user account for yourself even if you are the only Duet user within your organisation.

Configure applications
